Meeting with the IDB

To prepare for the upcoming 2020 Global Offshore Wind Summit - Taiwan (GOWST), the ECCT's Low Carbon Initiative (LCI) facilitated a meeting with Leu Jang-hwa, Director-General of the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB), under the Ministry of Economic Affairs and other government officials. Representatives from the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), the other organizer of the GOWST, also joined the meeting via conference call. The meeting was held to discuss the IDBs future policies for wind energy development in Taiwan.

At the meeting representatives from the ECCT and GWEC shared some best practices from Europe as well as recommendations from the perspective of global industry players to ensure a healthy and sustainable development of the wind industry in Taiwan while DG Leu and officials shared current plans and the status of future policy planning. At the conclusion, DG Leu thanked the ECCT for sharing experience from Europe, which he said would be shared with his colleagues in other MOEA agencies as they draft policies for the next phase of development of the industry.

Besides DG Leu, the meeting was attended by the following government officials: Lu Wen-tsan, Deputy Director, Metal and Mechanical Industries Division, IDB; Lin Yu- hsuan, Technical Specialist, Metal and Mechanical Industries Division, IDB and Fion Chen, Deputy Chief, Industrial Research Section, MIRDC.

Calling in via conference from GWEC were: Ben Backwell, CEO; Alastair Dutton, Chair, Offshore Taskforce; Liming Qiao, Asia Director; Joyce Lee, Policy and Operation Director and Shuxin Lim, Policy and Communication Manager.

Besides the ECCT CEO Freddie Höglund, the following ECCT members attended in person: Yuni Wang, ECCT Wind Energy committee Co-chair; Markus Wild, ECCT Director; and ECCT members including Maida Zahirovic and Gary Sun from MHI Vestas; Anderson Lin from wpd; Christy Wang from Orsted; Ales Tsai from EnBW, Niels Steenberg and Angela Chou from SGRE; Leon Wu and Jens Orfelt from Macquarie GIG, Jeffery Tsai and Alex Chang from NPI; Yu Foong Chong and Candy Lin from Innogy; Marina Hsu and PH Ou from CIP.
