Progress made on 2009-2010 Position Paper issues

Since the publication of the 2009-2010 Position Papers, progress has been made on the following issues:

Better Living

Equal rights for foreign residents – mobile phone services: Prior to 2010, foreign residents were unable to apply for mobile phone services without a local guarantor. Rules were revised in 2010 to give foreign residents the same rights to apply for services as Taiwan nationals.

Tax

Income tax: The government’s decision to lower the corporate income tax rate to 17% in 2010 made Taiwan’s corporate tax rate one of the lowest and most competitive in world. The ECCT had for years leading up to this decision and been urging the government to reform its tax regime to make rates internationally competitive.
