Karel de Gucht, former European Commissioner for Trade and Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium paid a visit to the ECCT together with Lin Yi-jung, who is a Commissioner in the European Union Affairs Section in the Department of European Affairs under Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Karel de Gucht has been President of the Brussels School of Governance at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) since 2015. He was EU Trade Commissioner from 2010-2014 and European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid from 2009-2010. In his home country he was a Member of the Belgian House of Representatives from 2003-2009, during which time he held portfolios as Minister for Foreign Affairs and European Affairs, Minister for International Trade and Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium.
