Taiwan is facing the immense challenge of making a successful transition to clean energy. Taiwan's energy transition policy emphasizes an increase in renewable energy, which is also the goal of the EU's 2020 Energy Strategy. The EU and Taiwan share a mutual interest in developing offshore wind energy in Taiwan. The Bureau of Standards, Metrology & Inspection (BSMI), MOEA, the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT), MOEA, and European Economic and Trade Office (EETO) under the framework of European Business and Regulatory Cooperation Programme (EBRC) will co-host the "2018 EU-Taiwan Offshore Wind Power Certification Seminar" on 14 March.

Due to the high project development costs, financial support from corporate investment and financing institutions is indispensable for wind farm project. In addition, there is a need for impartial third party accredited certification bodies to evaluate the feasibility of the offshore wind farm investment and the risks of offshore wind farm development, including Project Certification (PC), Marine Warranty Survey (MWS), and Due Diligence (DD).

The seminar will bring together experts from the European Commission's Directorate General for Energy (DG ENERGY), the European Investment Bank, and European wind industry players as well as experts in this area from Taiwan to share their experience with the public, in order to provide more detailed information on the regulation and practice in the EU and in Taiwan to the stakeholders.
