This event will be conducted in Mandarin. English interpretation will be provided.
The prevalence of obesity in Taiwan is rising. Health utilisation and medical costs are expensive and increasing for obese patients, both for surgery and for treating metabolic syndrome. Thus, obesity not only causes chronic diseases but also increases the economic burdens on patients and the healthcare system.
At this event, our guest speaker will present the main findings of a study which explored the epidemiology of obesity in Taiwan, the health utilisation and medical costs and the impact of chronic diseases caused by obesity. Based on data retrieved from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database using the Taiwan National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) data, the study provides implications for the policymakers.
Among other topics, the speaker will cover:
- The rising prevalence and risks associated with obesity.
- The rising costs of treating obesity for patients and the healthcare system.
- Options for prevention and treatment to improve patient outcomes and reduce costs.
The event will conclude with a panel discussion on the importance of raising awareness of obesity and the various prevention and treatment options.
