The Covid-19 pandemic had an unprecedented impact on the entire globe throughout the year in 2020 and is expected to continue to affect our lives for at least another year. The pandemic has changed the way people live and work and given rise to a variety of labour issues since the onset of the pandemic. As the pandemic evolves, corporations will need to adapt to changing pandemic conditions and the related demands and needs of government and employees.

The speakers at this half-day forum and lunch have advised numerous regional clients on Covid-19 related labour issues throughout 2020 or been involved in dealing with the impact of pandemic. At the event, they will share with ECCT members and guests an overview and share best practices of all the critical labour issues in the pandemic era to better equip corporations to cope with the current and future challenges.

The forum will comprise three sessions on 1) employment issues; 2) workforce issues; 3) Corporate best practice sharing related to remote working management and obstacles met and resolved in coping with the Covid-19 pandemic and 4) individual & corporate tax issues, which will be followed by a lunch and a panel discussion on the topic: “The new normal coping in the Post Covid-19 Era”. Among other topics they will cover will include:

  • Workforce reduction and observations from recent court judgments
  • Compulsory measures to track and contain the pandemic: mandatory examinations, compulsory vaccination, use of wearable devices and disclosure of personal data
  • Labour issues concerning “working from home” and “working from anywhere”: attendance records, occupational injury, salary discrimination, mental health, domestic violence, tax and work permits for remote working
  • The development and trends of the modern workforce: Proposition 22 passed in a California referendum and related recent developments in Taiwan.
