The ECCT’s Low Carbon Initiative (LCI) was the co-organiser of the 2023 Hualien Smart City Forum together with the Hualien County, held in Hualien on 8 September.

A day ahead of the forum, on 7 September, participants visited the facilities of Taiwan Cement and Chung Hua Pulp Corporation and witnessed some of the sustainable development initiatives of the two companies. In the evening, Hualien Mayor Hsu Chen-wei also hosted a gala dinner for visiting LCI members.

The forum on 8 September commenced with opening remarks by Hualien Magistrate Hsu Chen-wei and ECCT Chairman Giuseppe Izzo. This was followed by presentations and discussions featuring prominent corporate leaders who shared insights into their initiatives and solutions related to renewable energy procurement, innovative approaches to sustainable recycling, strategies for achieving carbon neutrality, and advancements in digital technology.
