ECCT visit to Premier Lin Chuan

On 5 September, a 16-member ECCT delegation led by Chairman Bernd Barkey and CEO Freddie Hoglund visited Premier Lin Chuan and senior cabinet officials at the Executive Yuan. Given the presence of the premier and cabinet officials at the same meeting, the annual visit gives the ECCT the opportunity to raise difficult business issues at the highest level of government.

In his opening remarks Chairman Barkey thanked the government for its productive engagement with the ECCT over the past year, which has resulted in progress on a number of issues. He pointed out that European investments in Taiwan now exceed US$38 billion, making Europeans by far the largest group of foreign investors in Taiwan.

In his opening remarks Premier Lin acknowledged the great contribution that Europeans have made to Taiwan's economy and noted that the government is dedicated to increasing the alignment of Taiwan's regulatory environment with international standards.

After the introductions, each of the ECCT's co-chairs took turns to raise some of their most pressing issues with the premier and officials present. Ministers and senior officials from ministries in attendance gave brief responses to all the issues raised.
