2018 EU-Taiwan Circular Economy International Conference in Taipei and Tainan 環保署2018循環經濟國際研討會

The ECCT's Low Carbon Initiative (LCI), Taiwan's Environmental Protection Administration (EPA), and the European Economic Trade Office (EETO) collaborated to organize the 2018 EU-Taiwan Circular Economy International Conference. The event was held at the Taipei International Convention Center in Taipei on 4 June, and then held at the Shangri-la Far Eastern Plaza Hotel in Tainan on 6 June.

On 4 June,  the 2018 EU-Taiwan Circular Economy International Conference was opened by EPA Minister Dr. Lee Ying-Yuan, taking place at the Taipei International Convention Center where 300 policy makers, industry experts, representatives of clusters and NGO's from both Europe and Taiwan gathered to discuss the latest development in three major areas: 1) Plastics; 2) Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment(WEEE) and 3) Construction & Demolition Waste.

The keynote speech on "Implementing European policy for the circular economy in Europe" was given by Director Gwenole Cozigou of DG GROW. Followed by talks from three representatives from ECCT LCI members; Thanindra Virasrume (Head of Purchasing, IKEA Taiwan), Dolly Tu (Manager, Philips Lighting Taiwan) and Richard Northcote (Chief Sustainability Officer, Covestro).

On 6 June, the LCI together with the EPA and Tainan City Government hosted the half day event on Industrial Circular Economy Forum, attended by an audience of 160 from Europe and Taiwan. The event was held at the Shangri-la Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, and LCI member Bart Linssen (Managing Director, Enercon Taiwan) delivered a presentation on the topic of wind turbine recycle and reuse. In the afternoon, the event attendees were given a tour of circular economy sites in Tainan.
