The ECCT will hold its annual Premium Event lunch with Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je, marking the 22nd year since the ECCT held its first round table lunch with the Taipei City Government (TCG). As in previous years, this year’s event will provide an exclusive opportunity for ECCT members to discuss issues of concern or mutual interest with the mayor and a full delegation of senior TCG cabinet officials, who will be in attendance.
Mayor Ko recently returned from trip to Europe, where he visited The Netherlands, Belgium, Poland and Turkey, together with several TCG cabinet officials. The mayor has previously expressed his affinity with European culture and values and the desire to adopt some of the best ideas and practices from Europe in Taipei City. During his recent trip he met with local government representatives in several countries to share best practices on issues such as urban renewal, public housing, smart cities, green transportation, the circular economy, home healthcare, and developing innovative industries. The trip also included a visit to Poland where he met with Polish statesman and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Lech Walesa and visited the monument dedicated to Polish composer Frédéric Chopin. At the event, the mayor will share some of the insights from his trip and how he plans to put some of the best ideas into practice in Taipei.
This event will offer an opportunity for members to hear about the city’s activities and plans for future development. At the lunch, which will be open only to ECCT members, Mayor Ko will give a short address to guests, after which a Q&A session will be held. Members will also be able to raise questions or discuss issues of concern with city government officials, who will be seated at different tables at the venue. Among other subjects, members will be able to raise and discuss the following subjects:
• How the TCG aims to improve the English language environment in Taipei and provide equality of treatment to foreign residents
• Major public transport and infrastructure plans, housing, urban renewal projects and tourism
• Plans to improve traffic safety and communications infrastructure (such as public Wi-Fi)
• Plans for intelligent infrastructure including green buildings, electric vehicles and smart grids.
