Taiwan boasts one of the world’s highest rates of recycling and there is growing awareness of sustainability issues in Taiwan. However, circular economy concepts are still not well understood and, to date, there have been very few circular economy applications in the real world, both in Taiwan and globally. At this event, our guest speaker will talk about recent circular economy developments in Taiwan and discuss areas for collaboration with ECCT members.

About Taiwan Circular Economy Network

The Taiwan Circular Economy Network (TCEN), founded in 2015, is a leadership initiative in Taiwan that brings together governments, businesses and NGOs to facilitate the transition to the circular economy. TCEN aims to enhance the overall understanding and implementation of the circular economy in Taiwan through policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement, knowledge sharing, capacity building and international connections. Over recent years TCEN has been invited to give over 100 public speeches, which have been attended by audiences totaling 10,000 people, including many important politicians. TCEN’s opinions are solicited for many governmental programmes and projects, including the 5+2 innovation plan, circular economy targets and strategies, circular parks and so on. Written by the chairman Charles Huang, TCEN published the first and only thematic book titled Circular Economy in 2017. Various circular economy-related programmes and business alliances have been formed in 2018. With the support of many stakeholders, TCEN believes that Taiwan is uniquely positioned to become the “circular economy hotspot” in Asia.
