2019 is the Year of the Pig, a symbol of wealth in Chinese culture. As has become tradition, to coincide with the Chinese New Year, we have arranged a special cultural excursion for ECCT members. This year we will be visiting the Dadaocheng district of Taipei, home to some of Taiwan’s oldest trading establishments, where guests will learn about local history, traditions and sample some unique food. We will also prepare a small surprise for the guests who were born in the year of the pig (1947, 1959, 1971, 1983 and 1995).

Itinerary
10:30-11:00 Registration at AS Watson Building (ASW)  報到地點:屈臣氏大藥房 (迪化街一段34號)
11:00-12:00 Tour of Xia Hai City God Temple 霞海城隍廟
12:00-13:30 Lunch at Rice & Shine in Dadaocheng  百年老屋稻舍用餐
13:30-14:00 Visit to Museum 207
14:00-14:30 Introduction to Taiwan fruit and juices by FFlavour  豐味果品

Our tour starts at the historical AS Watson & Co building, constructed in 1919 to house Watson’s first Western-style pharmacy in Taiwan. Guests will then be taken on a guided tour of the Taipei Xia Hai City God temple, where they will witness the ritual of pacifying the Tai Sui deity(安太歲). From there guests will proceed to the Yongle Fabric market, Taiwan’s oldest clothing market established in 1908, where they will be introduced to the local architecture, the history of Chinese herbal medicine, cloth and tea cultivation and trading.

Guests will then enjoy lunch at Rice & Shine, a rice-themed restaurant, which is now operated by the fifth-generation owner in a Western-style red brick building that was built over 100 years ago. At Rice & Shine, each bowl of rice is freshly ground and cooked and all the ingredients served at the restaurant come from the local market and merchants.

After lunch, guests will visit the 207 Museum. The building that houses Museum207 was constructed in 1962. It was designated a "Historic Building" by the Taipei City Government in 2009 and transformed into a museum in 2017 as an initiative to promote the preservation and revival of heritage buildings in Taiwan.

The final stop on the tour is the Fengwei Fruit shop where guest will be given an introduction to some of Taiwan’s finest export-grade fruits, collected from all over Taiwan, and be able to sample fruit juices, introduced by FFlavour.
