Much progress has been made over the past year towards putting in place the policies and regulatory mechanisms to enable an increase in renewable energy, particularly offshore wind and solar energy. However, considerable work remains to be done to reach Taiwan’s energy saving and carbon reduction goals. At this event our guest speaker will provide an update on the government’s most recent progress, efforts and future plans in this regard.

About the speaker

Dr. Lin Tze-Luen is a Member of the Board of Taipower and serves as Deputy Executive Director, Office of Energy and Carbon Reduction at the Executive Yuan, Taiwan. He is one of the leading forces in the administration to plan and implement renewable energy targets and carbon reduction efforts, helping to coordinate the different ministries and agencies involved. He also is Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the National Taiwan University, with a focus on research on international and local renewable energy policies and incentive mechanism.

Dr. Lin is one of Taiwan’s renewable energy and sustainability veterans. For over a decade, Dr. Lin has attended the United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC) as an observer/advisor, and has been a leading advocate for local/urban actions on energy transition and sustainable development. His research interests focus broadly on the realms of global environmental politics, energy and climate policy, citizen participation, deliberative democracy, and urban governance.

He simultaneously holds appointments as research fellows with the Policy and Law Center for Environmental Sustainability, the Risk Society and Policy Research Center, and serves on the Taiwan Committee of International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP). Dr Lin is the founding President of the International Climate and Development Institute, and co-founded the first energy cooperative in Taiwan in 2016.
