2018 Beach Cleaning Day

Location: Baisha Bay, Xinbei City / 新北市白沙灣風景區

Our oceans are being polluted by waste. The World Economic Forum predicts that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish. Plastic debris makes up around 85 percent of all the rubbish that washes up on beaches and waterways and oceans. Once in the water, plastic never completely biodegrades but instead breaks down into smaller pieces that is sometimes mistaken for food by marine animals. Fishing lines take 600 years to biodegrade, aluminium cans up to 200 years and tin cans around 50 years. During this time, they are not only eye-sores but can also potentially be a hazard and health risk to both animals and humans.

In order to take raise awareness and take proactive action to mitigate some of the damage to our oceans caused by human activity, the ECCT is, once again, teaming up with the Taipei European School to hold the annual beach cleaning event.

The ECCT’s CSR Committee sincerely invites you to wear blue and bring your friends and family members to clean the beach together and make a contribution to Taiwan and the environment. We look forward to seeing you there!

Detailed schedule:

09:00-09:30    Sign-in and divide into teams
09:30-09:35    Opening remarks
09:35-09:45    Group photos
09:45-10:00    Instructions and hand-out of equipment to participants
10:00-11:00    Beach cleaning
11:00-11:30    Weighing and organizing the collected trash - measure the success!
11:30-12:00    Clean up & Head home

Items to Bring:

Beach Cleaning tools: 
Clips, Gloves, second used plastic bags

Personal belongings:
Hat, sunscreen, drinking water, raincoat, long pants and sleeves, sneakers (please do not wear sandals or slippers), camera, gloves...etc.
