ECCT LCI delegation visits NCKU to promote the adaption of low carbon solutions

The ECCT's Low Carbon Initiative (LCI) delegation visited National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, to discuss and share information on possible academia-industry collaboration and efforts to promoting low carbon initiatives.

The ECCT LCI delegation included Freddie Hoeglund, CEO of ECCT, Erdal Elver, ECCT Director and President and CEO of Siemens Taiwan, Uwe Halstenbach, ECCT Director and GM of TUV Rheinland Taiwan Limited, Archie Chen, Business Development Manager of Siemens Taiwan, and Sammy Su, ECCT LCI Project Manager.

NCKU President Hwung Hwung-hweng welcomed the delegation and gave a briefing on the university. "NCKU was established in 1931 and currently has approximately 22,000 students in 9 colleges. Many surveys throughout the years have shown that NCKU's students are much sought after by Taiwanese companies."

NCKU Vice President Dr Jenny Su (Huey-jen) introduced the top-tier university's tremendous achievement in academia-industry collaboration nationwide and worldwide. NCKU also participates in major governmental infrastructure projects including Penghu's Low Carbon Island Project, building smart grids and home energy management systems.

"NCKU may organize a series of workshops or programmes on low carbon that would highlight the ECCT LCI's efforts and demonstrate NCKU's industrial R&D strength," said Dr Jenny Su Huey-jen, NCKU Executive Vice President.

ECCT CEO Freddie Hoeglund introduced the ECCT and expressed appreciation to Dr Huang. The CEO's presentation was followed by a presentation by Erdal Elver outlining the LCI's platforms and functions.

The ECCT delegation also heard presentations on NCKU's Research Center for Energy Technology and Strategy (RCETS) and Sustainable Environment Research Laboratories (SERL) after which they were given a tour of NCKU's Magic School of Green Technology, a LEED Platinum certified building.

After the meeting, the NCKU invited ECCT LCI members to participate and speak at the "International System of Energy Technology and Strategy" to be held in October 2013. The ECCT LCI will continue to work with NCKU on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and educational initiatives to promote the adaption of low carbon solutions and help build a sustainable environment in Taiwan.
