Automotive breakthrough for pick-up trucks

The MoTC announced on 30 March the latest amendment to several articles of the "Regulations Governing Road Traffic Safety", including allowing small pick-up trucks to be fitted with up to seven seats while large trucks may be fitted with up to nine seats. This overrides previous rules which restricted the number of seats to three, which was a serious issue for importers of double-cabs pick-up trucks with two rows of seats. Previously, it was not legal to import and sell trucks with more than three seats into Taiwan. Trucks originally designed with over three seats could not be licensed unless they removed the back the additional seats.
